About Me
Hi. My name is Tiffany Gray. I am 23 years old. Music is my life. I have been big into music since I was a baby. I've been singing my whole life, but I never really got into it, until I was 15 years old. That's when I realized I wanted to be a singer. That is also the age I started writing my own song lyrics. When I write a song, I write from the heart. I write about my thoughts, my feelings, my life, what I deal with, and what I go through. My songs are basically my autobiography.
I was born with both a visual impairment and Asperger's Syndrome. A visual impairment means I cannot see very well. Because of my seeing problems, I cannot read music, so I cannot write music to my songs. When I learn a song, I learn by ear, and it works for me. If only I could find someone who could write the music to my songs, and help me learn the music, I'd be set.
Asperger's Syndrome is a mild form of Autism. I didn't know I had it, until I was almost 16 years old. Before then, I wondered why I acted so different from everyone else. Why did I get so nervous easily? Why couldn't I handle stress very well, and why was I so sensitive? Even when I found out about my AS, it took a while to fully understand it, and know that it's not necessarily a bad thing. I discovered the upsides to it, too. My Asperger's is the reason why I have such a good memory, why I'm such an expert on music, and why I love to be creative so much. Asperger's gave me my unique imagination. Over the years, I have gotten frustrated with the downsides to it. I got so sick of getting my feelings hurt easily, because it was embarrassing for me. It still is, because it makes me appear whimpy to other people. Plus, I hate when I'm in public, and I'm really upset about something, and a complete stranger comes over to ask me what the problem is. I hate having to explain it to them, because it's usually something stupid. I do try to hide it sometimes, because it's embarrassing. I have had people get frustrated or annoyed with me, because of how my Asperger's makes me act. Unfortunately, I can't change that, and I have learned that if someone cannot accept me the way I am, that is their problem, not mine. I have even written a song about that, called "Accept Me," basically telling people to stop trying to change me. You either accept me the way I am, or you leave me alone, because I'm not changing who I am, just because other people don't like me.
With my singing and music, I want to touch people's lives, and set an example for them. I am trying to send out many different messages with my music. A big one is, don't let anything stop you from following and living your dreams, whether it's a disability, mental issue, illness, injury, or anything! Whoever said someone in a wheelchair couldn't be a dancer? You don't need your legs to dance, and I don't need perfect eyesight to sing and perform! The only thing I have to watch out for is the edge of the stage, so I don't fall off. That won't be a problem. I'm not going to let my disability or my Asperger's get in the way. I'm going to use it to my advantage--sing about it, write songs about my life, or make up my own movements on the stage!
I am also following in the footsteps of Celtic Woman. They have touched so many lives with their beautiful music, their kind hearts, and their angel voices. They have turned so many unhappy faces into the brightest smiles. They have done so much to turn my life around, and make me realize that I am the way I am, and people can either take me, or leave me. Well, I would like to put smiles on people's faces, too, and turn people's lives around. I could sit here all day, and tell you how Celtic Woman has changed my life, but that would take forever.
I sing all sorts of different genres--pop, country, Broadway show tunes, classical/vocal, and even Celtic/Irish music. What I want with my original songs is the same kind of soundas Celtic Woman--a classical-crossover sound with a Celtic twist. That kind of music just grabs my attention the most.
Anyway, I'm done babbling. I hope you enjoy my song portfolio.
